Lydia's Sleep - Wires (2012)

Whoa....

 I was just ejected from my current seated position. 

By whom you may ask? 

Lydia's Sleep.

 

Now this is isn't a wholly math rock affair but that certainly should not detract from the proceedings. 

Alternative Math with post hardcore lite leanings and a dash of post rock. This is just incredibly well thought out structurally as well. So when these cats from Portugal make a turn its on a razor dime smacking your face. End result? an auto fist pump (tm.) Do I usually get all gushy about production values? mai non. However you could really make the case here though, crystal clear and punchy as all get out. Vocals are also really excellent too for something this instrumentally rich.

Much more people should be losing their minds listening to this....

Closure in Moscow - First Temple (2009)

      Feel as though this is something I should have been contacted about from someone. Very very well executed amalgam of post hardcore lite with dramatic vocals. Not a stone out of place.  The stand out elements to me which set these Aussie's apart from other similar ilk is pretty inspired instrumentation and above average guitar riffs. Certainly some non standard scale's being thrown in the mix coupled with nice rhythms.

      If i had to throw out some bands that these guys sound like I'd say a alternate universe where Fall out Boy and Fall of Troy give birth.....Fall out of Troy?

Drummers - Self-Titled (2011)

With a name like "Drummers," you might expect a sound with more than one drummer, guitarists who play their instruments percussively, or some jaw-dropping stick work. Although none of this is evident on Drummers' debut LP, it is a pretty solid post-hardcore/post-punk/screamo/whateverthekidsarecallingitthesedays effort. Guitars jangle, crunch, and drive throughout, punctuated by rich screamo vocals. The production has an interesting gritty quality that works pretty well stylistically. Drummers are at their best playing catchy, rhythmically interesting music. Some of the deeper cuts are clunkers, but some uninspired chugging and failed experiments are to be expected with any fledgling band's debut. Looking forward to more from these guys.

No Knife

Holy blast from the past, I used to be very much into these gents. Almost completely forgot about them. An indie rock flavored post-punk center with the creamy coating of lite post hardcore and angular math guitar's.  Vocals certainly finish out the cast and help you stay interested. A great point of reference during the 90's for many of today's groups in my opinion.  O and I failed to mention there is a nice pop sensibility that runs through these songs.  No Knife avoid the typical 90's indie rock stigma by pulling no stops in adding sprinkles of many different rock genres into something that is very much their own. Its solid like a Sunday, no joke.
