Im a sucker for bakery fresh bread and as such I generally like my music the same....

                                                 

Deerthrone - Broken Mirror
A reminder of simple/tight song writing in a 3 man set up. Its wistful and contemplative mid tempo songs are always engaging. occasionally flirting with math riffage but generally a lyrically driven post-rock/alt rock mood. Just different enough to make a nice impression.

Kairos Theos - Self Titled
For a new group...and at only three strong these Texans make a strong case for their blend of post-hardcore and jazz fusion. Its quick and busy but never needlessly complicated like a lot of young groups these days. Vocals are varied and add a lot to the music. Its certainly an in vogue style but Karios stay true and craft an impressive first release.

Low Cloud - Do You See Me As I See You?
Toronto always seems ripe with interesting tap happy math's.
Memorable and interesting riffs with suitably capable vocals. I'd like to say its the fantastic combination of catchy melodies and winding rhythms that create such a compelling story.

Marylin-Rambo - Baleine à Nourrir (2012)

A promising French duo that doesn't fall into the typical pit falls of hard rock duo's. Metal, Math, Punk and good old fashioned RockNRoll blenderized for your listening pleasure.

Grand Piano - $1000 (2012)

We know you enjoy the math but what about blues? country?  Alright I'm not throwing something totally off course here but listen this stuff is very much in love with those throw back styles. Yes they do manage to incorporate some sprightly guitar lines and interesting song structures. Some songs are decidedly more blues rock and others not so much. It is however still a very interesting and enjoyable listen. Very fitting vocals if I do say so myself.

Cleft - Whale Bone (2012)

Off the path for a bit but I'm back on it to shell out the amazing Duo that is Cleft.

This is not your ordinary ram and jam rock duo. These gents from Manchester rip shirt up with wide powerful strokes and you will never question their motives. From a songwriting standpoint they can command their way around town surprisingly well for two people. Even when things cool it you'll never find yourself wishing for anything extra. I get a bit of an Adebisis Shank vibe in over all drive and pedal usage but if thats the comparison then props to them. Worthy of an extended ear listen.

Jason Lowenstein - At Sixes and Sevens (2002)

Any Sebadoh fans in the house? eh? a couple? alright well then some may or may not be familiar with Mr. Lowenstein here one time drummer of the iconic Lou Barlow fronted Sebadoh. If your still scratching your head (which you shouldn't be) Barlow played/plays bass in Dinosaur Jr.  Back to the task at hand, Jason's first solo effort is an interesting sort. This is pretty rock n roll through and through but with an excellent grasp of the guitar with some punk rock tones and at times pretty intricate lead lines. 90's sounding for sure with a less pop centric guided by voices level of song writing. draw backs? this release is front loaded like a mother. Anywho there is something for everyone going on here. dig in or......dig dug?
