Brightest Color - EP

Seems as though the residual trickle down economics of 80's synth revival (isn't there always an 80's synth revival no matter what year it is? ) and danceable math pop ala Foals has emerged in more than a couple bands as of late. I have my own personal love/hate battles with aspects of both but these guys Brightest Color seem to have struck some sort of balance. Is this going to melt your mind with awesome? eh i suppose it wouldn't leave you breathless but there are some genuinely excellent riffs sandwiched in here. Track 2 "Intimacy" opens with what could be a lost mega man boss level. I'm going to say Sabrage Man? Anywho check it could be your thing.

Kosuke Jodai - Scissorcuts Reunion (2010)

When we are talking left field music the Japanese always seem to be pushing boundaries.  Math Rock as a genre is pretty new and there is still room for growth. While there is much in the way of awesome time bending groups today, I think we can all generally agree that not many venture past the typical expectations. Enter Kosuke Jodai, I have no information other than this concerning this release so we will let the music speak for itself. This is some serious stuff. Equal parts noise, synth laden math rock its hard to keep your baring at times. It walks the line surprisingly well all things considered because there is just a lot going on. What actually came to mind similarity wise was the cram jam math rock super beast "Hey!Tonal" previously covered. This is great stuff and I wish I had more info on it at all. Certainly fans of the genre need to check this out.

Tears for Fears-Songs from the Big Couch-1985

On this trip to Newbury Comics, i was chilling with Metaghost and i said i should dig deeper into some 80s action. He was like "dawg.. tears for fears."

Oh yeah.. those guys. The only track i know by these dudes is the classic, Everybody Wants to Rule The World; guys writing that kind of song in 1985 aught to be dropping pretty solid albums, right?. Although I know it is also a single, I do not know Shout. Like Bille Jean, this track just eluded me through my life. It opens the album on a pretty epic synthy pop note. But its really track 3 im all about; such a good song.

Goddamnit they cut that shit short! Its a 4 minute track on the album, just over 3 minutes on youtube. Fuck that. That outro guitar solo is awesome. So there are more 80s classics i need to get into; Duran Duran, The Cure.. damn those are the only 2 names i can think of. I could use some help; please do post comments/ suggestions here on the blog, or on our facebook group. I would much appreciate it.
