Twin Shadow- Confess (2012)

As usual, I do not know much about this dudeman. Twin Shadow is the moniker of a broseph that just released his second album, Confess, and is known for mining the soundscapes and styles of 80s pop classics like Tears For Fears and The Human League, while prominently utilizing vocal techniques learned from the likes of those mentioned, as well as including a healthy dose of Peter Gabriels skills, and mirroring other modern incarnations of the form, such as TV on the Radio and Gotye. As to what I have read, this sophomore effort is much crisper and more fully realized than his well received debut, 2010s Forget.

I can't offer too much linkage for this post: the album kicks off to a great start with Golden Light, but his go-to single, Five Seconds, is a pretty great introduction to his style. It is track 3 off of Confess, and though the video features a 90 second narrative intro before the music hits, it sure is a neat ditty. Check it, wieners.

Tears for Fears-Head Over Heels

Ananda was right; she posted this as a response on my initial Tears for Fears post through the facebook group page. I had stopped at home after work, making a deal to leave early on Easter Sunday to arrive at 2 to my family party instead of 3:30 in exchange for shrimp, and when i was changing before preparing the shrimp for travel, i checked our facebook and blog and ananda had responded, saying "yeah everybody wants to rule the word is sweet, but Head over Heels is my song". I flipped to it in my iPod when i got to my car to leave for the shrimp delivery, and immediately recognized it was that-awesome-song-from-Donnie-Darko. Hell yeah this is the jam, and i was right; i knew i would be hearing songs again and saying "aw shit, so THIS is tears for fears!"

Tears for Fears-Songs from the Big Couch-1985

On this trip to Newbury Comics, i was chilling with Metaghost and i said i should dig deeper into some 80s action. He was like "dawg.. tears for fears."

Oh yeah.. those guys. The only track i know by these dudes is the classic, Everybody Wants to Rule The World; guys writing that kind of song in 1985 aught to be dropping pretty solid albums, right?. Although I know it is also a single, I do not know Shout. Like Bille Jean, this track just eluded me through my life. It opens the album on a pretty epic synthy pop note. But its really track 3 im all about; such a good song.

Goddamnit they cut that shit short! Its a 4 minute track on the album, just over 3 minutes on youtube. Fuck that. That outro guitar solo is awesome. So there are more 80s classics i need to get into; Duran Duran, The Cure.. damn those are the only 2 names i can think of. I could use some help; please do post comments/ suggestions here on the blog, or on our facebook group. I would much appreciate it.
