Jorge Arana Trio - Oso

Jorge Arana Trio had a really classy as shit album back in 2012 I really dug on and its been a few years but these guys are back. Id say this effort is a bit more rock centric than the far jazzier "Mapache" but hey I'd say its all the better for it. It's a fast and hard hitting release with insane chops but a rollicking soul thats just a lot of fun. Also just three guys? More people should be repping these cats. Highly surprised this group hasn't been on neighborhood watch years ago but theres always time to change. I know I plan on spreaking the gospel of this fantastic group high and low.

Treegrains - treegrains (2013)

This trio has a whole lot to offer and with a minimal setup at that. But to call this ode to instrumental math minimal in sound would be a grave error. A healthy amount of experimenting is going on with these three pieces as well. Each songs perfectly sets up its sonic identity followed by the band deconstructing then reforming the song into something else entirely with sharp transitions. You'll wonder how you even arrived...its good just let go bro. The band does tend to linger on ideas which is not necessarily a negative especially with bands these days hastily throwing ideas in the atmosphere that become so much star dust....and not the magical kind. It has a bit of that old school 90's math throwback feel also which I am always 100% behind.

Arcing - Doubt (2012)

Arcing is essentially Tiny Hawks with the addition of a bassist. What does it mean to you? Well it means your face is going to be pounded by awesome on all fronts. No really this stuff is so so so so good it cant be healthy. The music here is an updation of what Tiny Hawks were trying to do. A shout style aggressive math punk with a technical edge and just the right amount of melody from the guitar. It truly is a taste sensation that can't be beat.  I can safely say few bands going right now can match these cats in what is going down. If any of this sounds interesting or if you just want me to listen to something with the promise that it will be awesome...well this is it friends club.

Russian Circles- Enter (2006)

I met a new friend tonight, and once Don Cab was mentioned in our conversation we went math on each others asses. I showed him some Stage Kids and Mister Metaphor, and he in turn told me to check a bunch of bands.. handsome boy modeling school, pelican, isis, and above all Russian Circles. I know nothing of them, and though I have seen them referenced here at the Swords, I have never checked a review of any of their albums. I know they are a trio; that is it.
