Alta - Places (2012)
Like a clean crisp lemonade in the hot summer air, post-hardcore (emphasis on the hardcore here) seems to really hit me hard in these months. Alta is the band that has been lighting up my life recently, and this is why. The cocktail mixture here is mostly post-hardcore as mentioned above with that harder edge going on with the vox. Mathy elements are certainly all over this band but its as integrated as any of its other portions. Really well done musics with a true care for songwriting progression. Emotional and very hard hitting. Post-rock vibes? you feeling them bro? yea you bet your bottom. Awesome four piece from Milwaukee, WI doing it right where many fail.

Haisuinonasa
A band seemingly at odds. Shifting from lulling atmospherics, glitch breaks to breakneck math rock and everything in between. Who better to provide this interesting amalgam then haisuinonasa a band hailing from our favorite island nation of precision math rock. Have to say when things get slow...I get sleepy with these guys. When the tempo gets ramped up you may not have a band that is this insanely tight again this year, staggering really.

You can stream all their releases on their Bandcamp. Top class band. Two of the members used to be in Colour. They have just been confirmed for a Japanese tour.

The Cast of Cheers - Chariot (2010)
I personally guarantee after 3 listens of this album you will know all the lyrics, you'll be singing along to it at the top of your voice and you won't be able to stop yourself from dancing! An Irish four-piece, their debut Chariot smashed through the haze with its Foals/Battles-indebted blend of ferocious math-rock.
Ive been lucky enough to see these guys play a good few times in Dublin. Their live shows are phenomenal and full of energy. 'Enemies' have supported them a few times. Super nice guys!!
They have just released a new album three weeks ago on School Boy Error Records. Their new album was recorded/produced my non other than Luke Smith (who also produced Foals’ Total Life Forever).
This album was a free album only available in Ireland at the time but no longer available so definitely pick up a copy. This is rare.
