atrabillions - demo (2013)

Whoosh badoosh forgive my absence, I have been in the middle of some very heavy family medical stuff.  I am here to present you guys with a band that I actually just stumbled on not too long ago but have already very much been enjoying. atrabillions are an instrumental jazz prog-math three piece from Sydney Australia. What immediately caught my ears were the piano that finishes the drum and guitar triad....yep no bass. Which is fine and isn't lacking as the piano seems to at times fill that roll other times not.  The surprising bit is this is just a three song demo for these cats and they already sound like incredibly polished works. If you peak their influences its actually a farily decent smashing of these groups. Take a more structural driven "Tangled Thoughts of Leaving" a side of  "Mouse on the Keys" and a sprinkling of guitar business from Tera Melos..not much but just a smidge for flavor. It should be said that these guys are flying their own plane and that everyone here should get a great big kick out of this. Looking forward to hearing more.

Stockades - MONOLITH (2013)

Previously on X-Me....er Plenty of Swords

Australians based post-hardcore mathsters Stockades are almost ready to drop their first official release this June. Should prove to be a banger if this newly released song is any indicator. Great vocals and fantastically noodly guitars are in high order with these peeps so if thats your thing (and it should be) then you gotta peek it up.

Plini - Other Things (2012)

Plini is a solo project based out of Sydney, Australia. Plini offers to us an amazing three track EP, showcasing an amazingly atmospheric jazz fusion/post-rock/djent sound. The third track, Selenium Forest, while less jazz influenced, is still absolutely amazing (perhaps even the best track on the EP). If you are looking for something a little different (albeit excellent!), give this a shot. I promise you won't think twice about listening to it more than once.
Check 'em out on Facebook and Bandcamp.

Colditz Glider - Properties of Light EP

An oldie but goodie (relatively speaking), this is the sole release from the now defunct 4-piece from Melbourne which is a shame because this is an ace release. Released back in 2004, it rides that post-rock/math-rock line without being boring, the songs don't overstay their welcome, in fact they leave you wanting more. Has a playful atmosphere to it, with good use of space and dynamics to let you come down and enjoy the section you just heard before another one comes out of nowhere. Be sure to give this one a listen.
