Axes (2011)
London based Alt math rock group.
Super tight bizz. Think if Fago Sepia was invited to a rad party. Sure the good times do eventually chill a bit but the melodies are strong enough to carry even the less frantic parts. Can only imagine a full length release will mean stronger songs :)

fago.sepia - split w/gulfer
Lets get this small piece of info out of the way first. For my money (however little there always seems to be) fago.sepia is pound for pound one of the greatest math groups going right now. Their attention to melody, compositional restlessness and technicality always has me coming back. Its no surprise that this split with Montreal based Gulfer is so SPOT on. Not to snub Gulfer in any way they've deff got some nice math pop going for them.

PLOKK - A + B
PLOKK are a 5 piece from Hamburg. (EDIT: 3 piece ((even more impressive)) )
PLOKK are freaking amazing
Just listen to the facts. This is a franken beast that makes so much sense when you hear it. Depending on the moment you might catch them in the middle of some kind of quasi dissonant guitar battle that sounds like its about to fall apart. Two seconds later you could be thrashing to an all out alternative metal riff. It never turns out sounding at odds with itself though and flows organically on its way. The band itself says "intelligent krautrock" which I suppose you could tack in there. A better idea as far as other bands go would be a more disjointed and less jazzy version of Fago. Sepia, a wonderful comparison in my opinion. So i know i must say this a lot but if you enjoy math rock in any of its aspects this is not something you can pass by. Don't even think about it.

Fago .Sepia - L'ame Sure Ruse Mal
Jazz with a restless sense of direction. These songs all have the distinct feeling of highly orchestrated compositions more so than a lot of their contemporaries. Hailing from France, this foursome do a lot with dynamics and playing off one another. At times the melodies are yanked straight from a blue note session while in the same breath owing much to more recent post rock/experimental fair. With that being said songs constantly shift moods and feelings with purpose and an excellent sense of timing. Its hard to exactly state what makes this so special but I find myself coming back again and again.
