Holy Torpedo - Super Sabre (2014)

holy smackers this austin group has dropped a doozy down upon my face.  Mix some chip tune keyboards with a gnarly dose of alternative indie rock and very light mathy flirtations and you've got a powerful concoction. Are we done? nope. Vocals round out this beast and they are every bit the catchy 90's tinged biz that would have to accompany these jams. Incredibly self assured first release.

Unicornibot - Mambotron (2013)

Spanish math served up with an alt-rock bent. The time changes are seamlessly integrated into the package making it a blast to listen to. Unicornibot (aside from a name that's a bit difficult to pronounce) have a familiar feel, almost a throwback sound in a way. Must say they do very much play by their own rules however. Some pretty neat riff interplay and drums as well.

The Water Safety - Happiness is a Warm Wookie (2013)

Aside from the god awful album name this is some thoughtful and intelligent dance rock from Germany. Dance rock typically invokes some dangerous thoughts...yes I know this...(The Rapture *cough*) Thankfully these guys keep their cards close and have some love for many genres. Post rock? yea. Math? mhm Alternative Rock? sure throw it in there to. Truthfully I have posted these guys on our facebook group but it just occured that an official post had not been created. There is a little somethin somethin here for one and all so certainly its one to check out.

Druk - Compostélion (2013)

Here's a promise for you, first five seconds of this and you'll be hooked.

Druk are an instrumental math rock band from Mexico.  Surprisingly a three piece for the amount of amazing noise these guys create. Lots of tight turns to be had here folks. Some honest to god hooky alt/post punk/metal tinged riffing from the the stellar guitar work. We can also talk the jazz/prog elements but theres no need to dissect any further as this will hit all of your pleasure centers. Seriously this one caught me on the jaw..wasn't at all prepared but I am loving every minute. Not to worry because these guys never stay in one place for two long. 

Something sounded cool 15 seconds ago? they bring it back 3 minutes later or mutate it a bit. 

Brilliance. Pure. Brilliance.

Mugsy Boges - Sangfroid (2012)

Saratoga Springs NY based band that is holding down some really interesting jams here.
I say this because there are a lot of genres being bandied about. Indie rock, twinkly guitars, straight up math rock, alt rock and a spritz of pop punk for flavor. In spirit I kind of get a little bit of a Grown Up's vibe going and this can only mean good things. I appreciate the playing style here as it is pretty loose which isn't usually something I get totally down with. These guys are younger and its a first release but I say pretty dang darn stronger than a lot of first efforts. The vocals actually ended up surprising me in a good way on that second track. Worth the peaking effort as there is certainly something for everyone.

Axes (2011)

London based Alt math rock group.

Super tight bizz. Think if Fago Sepia was invited to a rad party. Sure the good times do eventually chill a bit but the melodies are strong enough to carry even the less frantic parts. Can only imagine a full length release will mean stronger songs :)

Vocal centric alt-rock with a generous slathering of math from England. What you might be noticing first off is that your not going to get buried in time shifts and dissonant guitar heroics but you can expect some pretty powerful pop hooks...the good kind. Clearly a lot of blood and tears has been put into ensuring that these 5 songs run as a cohesive statement of who they are as a group.  So if you need the lighter side of your math rock cravings satiated while still getting some polished songwriting and excellent singing then I suggest you do what is best and click below.

Incubus and Minus the Bear are throwing a pool party and thing's get a little "progressive rock" if you know what I mean. So in a nutshell this is what you're in for. Sound good? yea its pretty aces.

Submission Hold Round Up

Hey fellow math monsters just wanted to drop in and share some of our submissions since I haven't been very current. Also yes that is a picture of moon knight. Does there need to be a reason?

Hymmel - post-rock centered maths with electronic sprinkles. a little three trapped tigers vibe? eh a titch perhaps. these gents hail from Kent and do mix stuff up pretty well. 

Apart - Heavy emotional post hardcore with some nicely structured songs. clean and crisp production is always a plus. wish there was a squeech more effort placed into standing apart from others.

La Bibioteca Deserta - 65 days of static sorta sound but still its own deal. Italian electro alt post rock math. check this out pretty cool stuff.

Arms of Tripoli - Nice and moody post rock instrumental math. Has a strong flow to the structures and good sense of melody.

Cecimonster vs Donka - alternative rock with a pop punk beating heart from Peru. Clear, concise and great energy are all here waiting for you.

Dore Mear Beon - pitter patter math rock with programmed drums. I would guess the work of one person. Pretty chill stuff going on. Would love to hear a full band perform this.

Blind Wives - strong QOTSA driving alt rock. slight rhythmic shake ups. Even a bit poppy as far as vocals go.

Foxing - That Philly noodle guitar scream combo many know and love. These guys are from St. Louis however. the right amount of math style drums get thrown in for added effect.

17 Pygmies - keyboard shoegaze prog lite?? sounds more interesting than it is in real life.

Lord - And lastly ending strong we have Portland Oregon's Lord. I had posted them on our facebook page with their first release and they are back. Pure and lovely progressive rock holding hands with math. it's the good stuff we know and love. check it out extremely well done 2nd effort.
